You can put this solution on YOUR website!
bend a piece of wire 72 in. long into the shape of a rectangle that is three times as long as it is wide. What are the dimensions of the rectangle?
:
Let x = the width (W)
then
3x = length (L)
:
72" will be the perimeter of the rectangle: 2L + 2W = 72
then
2(3x) + 2x = 72
:
6x + 2x = 72
:
8x = 72
x = 72%2F8
x = 9" is the width
then
2(9) = 27 is the length
:
:
Check solution: 2(27) + 2(9) =
