Question 128233: I need to help my daughter with this problem: A pool is rectangular, 100 feet long and 35 feet wide. There is a fence 10 feet away from the pool edge that surrounds the pool. What is the length of the fence?
We drew it out, but can't figure out how to calcuate the extra length used to match the corners up. Hope you know what i"m saying.
This is problem is on a worksheet, not in her textbook.
Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the length of the fence is:100+2x & 35+2x
thus the length of the fence is:
2(100+2*10)+2(35+2*10)
2(100+20)+2(35+20)
2*120+2*55
240+110=350 feet is the length of the fence.
