Question 25274: 1) Let R and S be rings and define R x S = {(r,s):rES} to be the set of all pairs (r,s) with r ER and s ES. Define furthermore the addition and multiplication in R x S componentwise by (r1,s1)+(r2,s2)=(r1+r2,s1+s2) and (r1,s1).(r2,s2)=(r1.r2,s1.s2)
a) show that R x S is a ring again.
b) show that if R and S both have an identity element then so does R x S.
c) show that R x S has non-zero, non-regular elements if R and S both are different from the zero-ring.
d) Can R x S ever be a field? Justify your answer!

Question 36524: My Friend and I have tried to find the inverse of this problem but we can't seem to get anything to work. our teacher hasn't discussed this with the class and now we have a project due monday on it.
the equation is BIM= W*704.5/H^2
BIM= Body Mass indicator, a mathematical formula used to determine how healthy an individual is
W= Weight of person in pounds
H= Height of person in inches
we are looking for an inverse that we have the weight but we need to find the hieght. the person weights 100 lbs.
we've tried changing the equation into (100*704.5)*H^-2 among many other things. thanks for helping if you can.
