Reciprocal is the inverse. In other words when a number and its reciprocal are multiplied together, the product is 1.

For a fraction, it means flip the fraction to find the reciprocal.

-1/2 reciprocal = -2/1.

state the reciprocal -1/2
.
Just flip the fraction upside down so the denominator (2) becomes the numerator of the reciprocal and the numerator (1) becomes the denominator of the reciprocal. The minus sign does not change. So the reciprocal of -1/2 is:
.
-2%2F1
.
and this simplifies to -2
