If the function is y=3%28%281%2F2%29x-1%29%5E2-2+=+%283%2F4%29%28x-2%29%5E2+-+2, then it has no inverse function, because it is NOT 1-to-1 (The graph is a parabola opening upward, with vertex at (2, -2), hence fails the horizontal line test.) Somehow the domain has to be trimmed down enough so that there will be no ambiguity in the sign of the resulting inverse function value.
