Question 158752: I am a parent who has been out of school for more than 20 years. I am trying to help my daugher understand a problem that is on her homework. The ditto is about Inverse Operations... and says to show two different ways to solve the equation. The equation is as follows:
5x - 1 = 2x + 8
Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 is subtracted on the left side, so the inverse operation is adding 1
__ 5x=2x+9

2x is added on the right side, so the inverse operation is subtracting 2x
__ 3x=9

3 is multiplied on the left side, so the inverse operation is dividing by 3
__ x=3



8 is added on the right side, so the inverse operation is subtracting 8
__ 5x-9=2x

5x is added on the left side, so the inverse operation is subtracting 5x
__ -9=-3x

-3 is multiplied on the right side, so the inverse operation is dividing by -3
__ 3=x
