Question 49875: solve and graph 3x +Y >or = 4
x+2y do I go to solve for x first and subtract the quantity of x from each side or do I multiply the first equation by 2y and the second equation by Y, I'm stumped as to which to do. couldn't find the symbol for greater than or equal to and vice versa. seems like I should do 2*3x+2*y>= 2*4 and but then the second one doesn't seem right Y*x+x*2Y<=2*2 I sort of lost on this problem, I'm getting lost on what to do on problems easily.

Question 50651: The problem I am having with is what sign do you use when you are not given < or> or greater than equal to. For example problem 61 (pg. 106): square root of 3x+5.
you set the inequality to 3x+5 0. If you are not given the sign how do you know what sign to put in the middle will it be 3x+5>0 (I got the answer from the answer book but how did they know to put it > 0 instead of < or greater or equal to OR less than equal to. once I know how the sign goes then I know how to proceed. it would be 3x+5>0 so you move the 5 to the opposite side, so now it reads 3x>-5, then to get the x by itself you divide by 3 to both sides then it reads x>-5/3. Again when there is no sign given to the problem how do you know what direction the sign will be.
