Let's say these two fractons are equal (they're not), but let's do so to set up the problem
5%2F8=4%2F7


5%2A7=4%2A8 Cross multiply

35=32 Multiply

35%3E32 Since the left side is larger, the left fraction is greater than the right fraction


So 5%2F8%3E4%2F7


Check:

If we divide 5%2F8 we get 0.625. If we divide 4%2F7 we get about 0.57142. So we can see that 5%2F8 is larger since 0.625%3E0.57142.
