x < 2 written in interval notation is (-∞, 2)


This is the interval from negative infinity to 2. This is basically everything smaller than 2. We are NOT including 2 in the solution set.


Note: If we wanted to include 2, we would have to place an underline under the inequality sign. So we would have to say x%3C=2 instead of just x%3C2. If we had x%3C=2, then the answer would be (-∞, 2]. However, that is not the case here.
