How would I go about setting up this problem? Do I substitute the bank box with the whole inequality stated above? Thanks

We compare 

s+12 > 20

with 

   s > ___

We notice that the first has a +12 on the left and the second one
doesn't.  Then to make the first one look like the second one we
must get rid of the +12.  To do that we must add the opposite of
+12 which is -12 to both sides of the inequality:

s+12 > 20

becomes

s+12-12 > 20-12

Then when we simplify we just get:

  s > 8
