2y = 3y+2+1 or 2y = -3y-2+1
-y = 3 or 5y = -1
y = -3 or y = -1/5
Neither of these solutions work.

Absolute value problems sometimes have no solution because the solutions do not check like those of the given problem. I get the same answers you got: y = -3 or y = -1/5 , but they do not check when plugged back into the equation:|2y| = |3y+2| + 1.
|2*-3| = |3*-3+2| + 1
|-6|=|-9+2|+1
|-6|=|-7|+1
6≠7+1
