x − 2y = 14
x + 3y = 9

Part 1: If the system has a solution, then 1 = 3. Therefore the system has no solution.

Part 2: Multiply the first equation by -1 to get -x + 2y = -14. Add this to the second equation to obtain 5y = -5 --> y = -1. Replace this into either equation to get x = 12.
