Question 375571: which of the following expressions is equivalent to 20 - 4/5 x > (the > has a line under it) 16?
i tried 20/1 - 4/5 and got 16/5
then i think converted down it would be 5
so would it be x > 5 (> having a line under it)?
i am probably wrong but i tried.. algebra is not my strong point at all...

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

20-%284%2F5%29x%3E=16 Start with the given inequality.

5%2820%29-cross%285%29%28%284%2Fcross%285%29%29x%29%3E=5%2816%29 Multiply EVERY term by the LCD 5 to clear any fractions.

100-4x%3E=80 Multiply and simplify.

-4x%3E=80-100 Subtract 100 from both sides.

-4x%3E=-20 Combine like terms on the right side.

x%3C=%28-20%29%2F%28-4%29 Divide both sides by -4 to isolate x. note: Remember, the inequality sign flips when we divide both sides by a negative number.

x%3C=5 Reduce.

Answer:

So the solution is x%3C=5

So you were close, but you forgot to flip the sign.
