Six less than four times N is twelve more than twice N
Now bracket opertations,
Six less than (four times N) is twelve more than (twice N)
Make it more mathematical,
Six less than (4N) is twelve more than (2N)
Substitute numerical values for the words,
6 less than (4N) is 12 more than (2N)
replace the is-word with the equals-sign
6 less than 4N = 12 more than 2N
You have a subtraction on the lhs of the equals-sign and an addition on the rhs. Make the word-statements mathematical,
4N - 6 = 12 + 2N
