You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First add 3 to each side to get 2y=-2. Then divide each side by 2 so y=-1.

.
Solve an equation 2y - 3 = -5.

Step 1. Add 3 to both sides. You will get an equivalent equation

         2y = -5 + 3,   or  2y = -2.

Step 2. In the last equation, divide both sides by 2. You will get an equivalent equation

         y = -2%2F2,   or  y = -1.

It is your solution:  y = -1.

Answer.  y = -1.
