Question 23732: Members of the choir are seeing a musical. Cars and vans will be used to transport them. 1 car holds 5 students and 1 van holds 8 students. How many vehicles of each type will be used if no more than 40 students are going? Wrtie an inequality to describe the situation and graph it. Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let "c" be the number of cars.
Let "v" be the number of vans.
Then 5c is the number of students in the cars.
And 8v is the number of students in the vans.
INEQUALITY:
5c + 8v <= 40
Solve for c as follows:
c <= (40-8v)/5
Graph it on a vc coordinate system. Let the
independent variable be v and the dependent be c.
