I have tried substituting the "if" equation in for x in the "then" equation, but just can't seem to get anywhere. The back of the book indicates that the correct answer is a=1 and b=8. I can't figure out how to move from an inequality to an answer with an equality. This question is from textbook Intermediate Algebra
