Question 13242: SOLVE THE INEQUALITY FOR X, WRITE THE ANSWER IN SET BUILDER NOTATION AND GRAPH THE SOLUTION ON A NUMBER LINE.
I usually do okay with inequalities but this one is throwing me off. I am not sure what to do with the -x/3? Here is the problem. I appreciate any help you can offer.
-x/3+4>5
-x/3+4-4>5-4 Thats as far as I got.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-x/3+4>5
-x/3+4-4>5-4
-x/3>1
Multiply both sides by 3 (or divde by 1/3)
Note: Dividing by a negative results in switching the > sign
-x>3
x<-3
Anytime you divide by a negative you must switch the inequality sign
The graph will be all the numbers that are less than 3 (but not equal to 3).
