Question 1206196: Miss. Stanley has $60 in her wallet. She wants to buy a pair of jeans from the mall for $25 and a couple t-shirts. If each t-shirt costs $5, how many t-shirts could she buy? (Define a variable, write an inequality, then solve.)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Define a variable...

Let x = # of t-shirts she can buy

Write an inequality.... The total cost -- $25 for the pair of jeans plus $5 for each t-shirt -- must be at most $60

25+5t <= 60

Then solve...

25+5t <= 60
5t <= 60-25
5t <= 35
t <= 35/5
t <= 7

ANSWER: She can buy any number of t-shirts up to a maximum of 7
