Question 10833: Can you help me with this problem? I've tried working it myself and I'm not coming up with the answer the back of my book shows:
5x-1 over 3 < 2x+1 over 6
The answer in the back of my book shows x<3/8 (x is less than three eighths)
How do they come up with this answer? Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(5x-1)/3 < (2x +1)/6

using the l.c.m. to multiply both sides of the inequality,
6X(5x-1)/3 < 6X(2X+1)/6
simplifying,
10x-2 < 2x+1
10x-2x < 1+2

8x < 3
dividing by coefficient of x,
x < 3/8 ans.
