You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given: y varies directly with x. Write the variation equation. If y =3 when x = -6, find k, the constant of proportionality, and find y when x = 8.
:
y = kx is the equation
:
Substitute 3 for y and -6 for x and find k
kx = y
-6k = 3
k = 3/-6
k = -1%2F2
:
The equation: y = -1%2F2x
:
Find y when x = 8
y = -1%2F2*8
:
y = -4
