You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the number
.40 x = 40% of the number

x + .40x = 14

Commbine like terms:
1.00x + .40x = 14
1.40x = 14
1.4x = 14

Divide both sides of the equation by 1.4
+%281.4x%29%2F1.4+=+14%2F1.4
x+=+14%2F1.4+=+140%2F14
x=10
