Question 401949: I have a word problem: Mrs. Lewis made treats for her class. She made 14 brownies and some maple bars. The brownies made up 35% of her treats. How many bars did she make, and what percent of the total treats is that?
So my work translating it is to find "x" if 14 = 35/100 (x)
That is where I am stuck. I know that if 14 was 1/3, then 28 would be 2/3. I have to figure out the procedural steps. Once I find "x" then I can finish the problem.
Thanks!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
She made 14 brownies and some maple bars.
"The brownies made up 35% of her treats.
How many bars did she make, and what percent of the total treats is that?
:
Let t = total no. treats made
therefore
.35t = 14
t = 14%2F.35
t = 40 treats in all
therefore
40 - 14 = 26 Maple Bars were made
:
26%2F40 * 100 = 65% were Maple Bars
:
:
We can confirm this. 35% + 65% = 100%
