Question 348260: At track practice, each runner usually carries a lap counter. Hector and McQuisten want to make their coach think that they have run farther than they actually have, so they decide to share a lap counter. Hector runs twice as far as McQuisten does. When both are finished running, the lap counter reads 48 laps. How many laps did Hector actually run?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = actual distance McQuisten runs
2x = actual distance Hector runs
The lap counters will record a total of 2x
when McQuisten runs, and the counters record a total of 4x
When Hector runs
total = 2x+%2B+4x+=+6x
6x+=+48
x+=+8
2x+=+16
Hector ran 16 laps
