Question 273475: 1) Suppose you are taking a course that has 4 Tests. the first 3 Tests have 100 points each and the fouth has 200 points. to get an A in the course, a student must have an average of at least 90 percent on the four Tests. your scores on the first 3 Tests were: 87 , 92 and 84. what must you score on the fourth Test to get an A in Course?
2) Suppose your driving on a freeway to a town 150 miles from your home. After 30 minutes you pass a freeway exit that you know is 25 miles from your home. Assuming that you continue at the same constant speed, how long will the entire trip take?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) Suppose you are taking a course that has 4 Tests. the first 3 Tests have 100 points each and the fourth has 200 points.
to get an A in the course, a student must have an average of at least 90 percent on the four Tests.
your scores on the first 3 Tests were: 87 , 92 and 84. what must you score on the fourth Test to get an A in Course?
:
Let the 4th test score = x (out of 200)
This test has 200 points, so each point = half a percent therefore:
%2887+%2B+92+%2B+84+%2B+.5x%29%2F4 = 90
Add the given grades and multiply by 4
263 + .5x = 4(90)
.5x = 360 - 263
.5x = 97
Multiply by 2
x = 2(97)
x = 194 points required on a 200 pt test

2) Suppose your driving on a freeway to a town 150 miles from your home.
After 30 minutes you pass a freeway exit that you know is 25 miles from your home.
Assuming that you continue at the same constant speed, how long will the entire trip take
:
Find the speed you are driving (change 30 min to .5 hr):
You went 25 mi in a half hour
25%2F.5 = 50 mph is your speed
:
Find the time to travel 150 mi at 50 mph (you can do it in your head)
150%2F50 = 3 hrs

I assume you are the one who put this problem in my comment section. The trouble with that is, unless you include an email address, I have no way of
knowing who you are or even what problem your talking about.
