Question 1134046: Downstream , the boat traveled 64 miles in 2 hours. Heading upstream, however, it could only travel 54 miles in 3 hours. find the speed of the bost in still water and the speed of the current. Found 2 solutions by Boreal, Alan3354:Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! the boat can make 32 mph with the current and 18 mph against the current.
so 32=s+c, where s is speed of boat in flat water and c the speed of the current
and18=s-c
50=2s
s=25 mph in still water
c=7 mph current
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Find the 2 speeds downstream and upstream.
The boat's speed is the average of those 2.
----
The current is the difference between the boat's and either up or downstream speed.
