system%282y=6%2Bx%2By%2C3x=12%2Bx%2By%29

system%28y=6%2Bx%2C2x=12%2By%29

2x=12%2B6%2Bx
x=18

y=6%2B18
y=24

Let n be the total number of members. Then the males are (n/2)+3, and females are (n/3)+4. So:
(n/2)+3+(n/3)+4=n
3n+2n+42=6n
n=42, and 42 IS greater than 40. ☺☺☺☺

Let number of members be M
Then number of males = matrix%281%2C3%2C+%281%2F2%29+%2A+M+%2B+3%2C+or%2C+M%2F2+%2B+3%29
Number of females = matrix%281%2C3%2C+%281%2F3%29+%2A+M+%2B+4%2C+or%2C+M%2F3+%2B+4%29
We then get: M%2F2+%2B+3+%2B+M%2F3+%2B+4+=+M____M%2F2+%2B+M%2F3+%2B+7+=+M
3M + 2M + 42 = 6M ------- Multiplying by LCD, 6
42 = 6M - 5M
M, or number of members = 42
