You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let n be the total number of members. Then the males are (n/2)+3, and females are (n/3)+4. So:
(n/2)+3+(n/3)+4=n
3n+2n+42=6n
n=42, and 42 IS greater than 40. ☺☺☺☺

Let number of members be M
Then number of males =
Number of females =
We then get: ____
3M + 2M + 42 = 6M ------- Multiplying by LCD, 6
42 = 6M - 5M
M, or number of members = 42
