Question 183955: I am really having trouble with this. If anyone can please help me I'd appreciate it a lot. I am not sure how to do this. The data I collected for this problem is:
McDonald's Cheesburger
# of fat calories: 103
Grams of sat. fat: 6.0 g
Wendy's cheesburer
# of fat calories: 230
Grams of sat. fat: 6.0g
Culvers cheeseburger
# of fat calories: 180
Grams of sat. fat: 8.0
McD's large fries
# of fat calories: 230
Grams of sat fat: 4.5g
Culvers lrg. fries
# of fat calories 211
Grams of sat fat: 10.8g
Wendy's lrg fries
# of fat calories: 220
grams of sat. fat: 0g
Collect data from several fast food chains on the number of fat calories and grams of saturated fat in menu items. Record at least 12 ordered pairs of (fat calories, grams of saturated fat). Organize your data in a table.
II. Make a scatter plot of the data on graph paper. Be sure to label the axes and use an appropriate title for the graph.
III. Draw a trend line for the scatter plot. Use the following scatter plot of the ordered pairs (fat grams, total calories) as an example.
IV. Calculate the slope of the trend line. (Choose two points on the line and find vertical change over horizontal change.)

V. Using the slope and y-intercept, write the equation of the trend line ( y = mx + b).
VI. Choose a "calories from fat" value that is not in your collected data set and that is at least 10 fat calories away from any collected value. Use the equation calculated in step V to predict the number of fat grams in an item having that number of fat calories. Be sure to show your work.
VII. Search for an item in a fast food menu having the same number of fat calories as the one you chose above. (If you cannot find the exact value, get as close as you can.) Compare the calculated value from step VI to this actual value. Explain why (or why not) you would have expected your prediction (calculated value) to be close to the actual value.
Thank you very much

Question 183971: Cara likes candles. She also likes mathematics and was thinking about using algebra to answer a question that she had about two of her candles. Her taller candle is 16 centimeters tall. For each hour it burns, the candle loses 2.5 centimeters in height.
Her short candle is 12 centimeters tall and loses 1.5 centimeters in height for each hour that it burns. I need help to determine whether these two candles would ever reach the same height at the same time if allowed to burn the same length of time. If it is not possible, I need to know why it could not happen and what would need to be true in order for them to be able to reach the same height. We need to use multiple representations, justify your results and explain your thinking.

Question 184177: I am having a terrible time trying to figure this out, any help will be greatly appreciated

Bill and Barbara collected the following data in a chemistry experiment when they were in lab. They were comparing two thermometers. The thermometers were under constant conditions except that the heat was changing under each thermometer as time passed. T is the time of the reading. X is the reading of the first thermometer. Y is the reading of the second thermometer. Bill and Barbara are assuming a linear relationship between the readings X and Y on the thermometers and are to find a linear equation relating this (x,y) relationship.
See data collection chart below.

Question 184173: #3
what does this look like in a graph after being plotted out?
First, set Y to 0 then solve for X
2X - 7
2X = -7
X = -7/2
Now plot (-7/2, 0)
Then set X to 0 and solve for Y
Y = -2(0) - 7
Y = -7
Now plot (0,-7)
1 = -2x -7
8 = -2x
8/-2 = x
x = -4
Plot (-4, 1)
I figured out this much, but cannot figure out how to get the graph. the original problem was to graph: 7.1x - 3.9y = 1.4
Help is appreciated. This is going on for quite a while and I really want to find the way to do this.
