Question 47641: I have a problem that states, "use the graph to find solutions to the equation" and the graph shows an up-side-down U shape. Then the equation is
-x²+2=-2
I don't know where to begin? How do I go about solving this? What topic is this that I could research and learn so that I can do other problems like this?

Question 47730: Find the exponential function f(x) = a^x and it gives a graph that is descending with points passing through (-3,8) and (1,1).
I have f(-3) = a^-3 = 8, a = 1/2 so f(x) = 1/2 ^-x.
This doesn't seem correct, can you help?
Thank you so much!!

Question 47733: Graph the function, not by plotting points, but by starting from the graphs in Figure 4. State the domain, range, and asymptote.
f(x) = 1 - 2^-x
I used the graph of y=2^x, reflected about the y-axis, then shift upward 1 unit. As usual, it doesn't look right, even if I turn it upside down.
Thank you Thank you Thank you!

Question 47734: Graph the function, not by plotting points, but by starting from the graph of y = e^x. State the domain, range, and asymptote.
y = 1- e^x
I tried graphing these on the computer but it won't take these exponents so I'm at a loss although I know that there is some shifting involved with the first constant.
Thank you so very much for this help!

Question 48236: Can anyone help?
Unit 2 Discussion Board
Deliverable Length: 3 - 4 paragraphs
Details: When using the quadratic formula to solve a quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0, the discriminant is b2 - 4ac. This discriminant can be positive, zero, or negative. (When the discriminant is negative, then we have the square root of a negative number. This is called an imaginary number, sqrt(-1) = i. )
Explain what the value of the discriminant means to the graph of y = ax2 + bx + c. Hint: Chose values of a, b and c to create a particular discriminant. Then, graph the corresponding equation.
Search the Cybrary and Internet. In the real world, where might these imaginary numbers be used?

Question 48253: I have have to plot the following, y=100 -6x, I have to find the slope, the y intercept and x intercept. I am using the y=mx+b slope intercept method. so I know my y intercept is 100 and my slope is -6 over 1. My question is when i graph this - what scale should i use on the y axis so i don't have to use 1:1 ratio and then also am i required to use the same scale on the x axis? (and if my answers above aren't accurate please correct me!)

Question 48277: I need to graph y= -4xsquared +16x-12
I also need to find the intercepts.
I have completed the square, except I come up with

I also came up with the y intercept of (0, -12)
I am not sure if that is right. I also could not come up with the x intercept because I can not get the equation into vertex form. I am really confused.
