Question 352383: Find the slope for (-10, -11) and (-16, -20)
I know that y2 - y1/x2 - x1
so I have -10 - (-11)/-16 - (-20)
This is where I get messed up!! Is -10 - (-11) positive 21? and -16 - (-20) a positive 36? This confuses me. I know that the figure will turn positive, but not sure then if these would be added or what.
Thank you for your help!

If I did this correctly, do I leave the sqrt%282%29 in the x intercept coordinates or do I convert this to decimal form, 1.41?
Thanks and have a great night!

Question 352688: Please show me how to graph 8x+3Y>24
I know 8x+3y=24
Subtract 8x from both sides; 3y=8x-24
Divide both sides by 3; y = 8/3x - 8
Is that correct?
If so,how do I put it on the graph? What are the points? Where do I draw the line?
If it's not correct, what is the correct way?
Thank you!

Question 352899: Graph the system of inequalities. Find the coordinates of any vertices formed.
1)6x-2y is less than or equal to 12
2)y-3 is less than or equal to 0
3)x+y is greater than or equal to 0
I understand how to graph 1) and 2) but not 3). I understand solid VS shaded lines and what part of the boundries get shaded. I can see with graphing 1) and 2) that they intersect at (3,3).
I do not understand at all how to obtain the vertices. The book says to use graphing, substitution, or elimination.
I appreciate your advice!
Jill

Question 353768: Please help me with this!...I do not understand how to get the other answers without using the letters that I am not allowed to use. I get all confused starting with the 4th question.

If you were to compute frequently the distance of a point from a line it would be handy to have a formula into which you plug the coordinates of the point and the equation of the line. At the end of this problem you will obtain such a formula. To help you along you can use WeBWorK to check your intermediate answers.
Let P be the point (p,q) and L the line y = m x + b. It is not necessary, but if you like you may assume that P lies below the line L. All your answers below should be algebraic expressions in terms of m, b, p and q. The slope of L is ____. The slope of a line perpendicular to L is ____. The line through P perpendicular to L can be written as y = s x + c where s is:___ and c is:___ . That line intersects L in the point Q = (u,v), where u is:___ and v is:___. The distance of P and Q is ____. The expression you enter here may be quite messy. However, if it is correct it can be simplified into a very concise and meaningful form. Make sure you check the solution of this problem when the set closes.
Hint: If you are bewildered by all the symbols ask yourself what they mean in the special case of the preceding problem, and compare your calculations for this problem with the numerical calculations you did earlier.
So here are the answers that I have so far.
1. m
2. -1/m
3. -1/m
4. ?
5. ?
6. ?
7. ?
