The equation for a line that is not a "vertical line" is often given in the form
y=m%2Ax%2Bb where m and b are constants.
That form of the equation is called the slope-intercept form
y=6-8x is equivalent to y=-8x%2B6<-->y=%28-8%29x%2B6 , which is written in the traditional slope-intercept form.
Slope is the number m multiplied times x .
In the case of y=6-8x the number is -8 .
Half of that is
%281%2F2%29%2A%28-8%29=-4 .
The other term, 6 is the y-intercept.
The slope-intercept form for a line with the same y-intercept but half the slope of the line y=6-8x is
