Is the problem |x-3| > -1/2?
if so, then there are two parts
a) x - 3 > -1/2
add 3 to both sides of >
x > 5/2
b) x-3 < 1/2
add 3 to both sides of <
x < 7/2
this PAIR of inequalities is the solution, x > 5/2 or x < 7/2
the solution to | x – 3 | > -1/2 consists of the two intervals x < 7/2 and x > 5/2.
