Draw the x-y coordinate system of two perpendicular lines.
The horizontal line is the x-axis
The vertical line is the y-axis
Put your pencil on the point where they cross; that is the
origin or (0,0) point
Move your pencil to the left along the x-axis; that is the negative part of
the x-axis. Mark points as -1, -2, -3,-4 along that line. Draw a vertical
line up from the point -4.
Start again at the origin.
Move your pencil up along the y-axis; that is positive part
of the y-axis. Mark poins along that as 1, 2. 3. Draw a horizontal
line left from the point 3.
Where the horizontal line meets the vertical line is the point (-4,3).
