Hi, there--

The Problem:
Select an ordered pair from the choices below that is a solution to the following system of
inequalities:
10y%3E-20
9%3E3x

Solution:
Solve the first inequality for y by dividing both sides by 10.
10y%3E-20
10y%2F10%3E-20%2F10
y%3E-2

We see that y is greater then -2.

Solve the second equation for x by dividing both sides by 3.
9%3E3x
9%2F3%3E3x%2F3
3%3Ex

"Three is greater than x" means the same thing as "x is less than three," so we can rearrange
this inequality to have x on the left hand side.
x%3C3

Now we know that x is a number that is less than three.

You did not list any ordered pairs, but you want one that fits the criteria for x and y. For example,
(x,y) =(-1,1) is a solution because -1 is less than 3 and 1 is greater than -2.
