: Ok, is there another way to solve the values for x and y instead of just inserting a zero into each to get the value of the other?
2y = x - 8
If I divide each side by 2, should I get y = 1/2x - 8 or y = x - 4??
Where am I going wrong?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2y = x - 8 [Solve for y]
2y/2=x/2-8/2
y=1/2x-4
