Find the vertex, line of symmetry, and the maximum or minimum value of f(x). Graph the function: f(x)=1/5(x+8)^2+5

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Rewrite f(x)=1/5(x+8)^2+5 as f(x)=1/5(x-(-8))^2+5

Now function is in form f(x)=a(x-h)^2+k

Vertex is (h,k). We can see that h=-8 and k=5. So the vertex is (-8,5)

The line of symmetry is the vertical line at the x coordinate of the vertex. So the line of symmetry is x = -8 (a vertical line at x=-8)

The max/min is the y value of the vertex. In this case, a=1/5, which is positive. So the y value of the vertex is a min. The min is y = 5
