Question 420249: Tell weather the parabola opens up or down and find the coordinates of the vertex and the axis of symmetry
y=2x^2 Answer by Gogonati(855) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The standard form of parabola is given with the equation: y=ax^2+bx+c where a#0
If a>0 the parabola opens upward, if a<0 parabola opens downward.
The coordinates of vertex (x,y)are: x=-b/2a and f(-b/2a)=y.
The axis of symmetry is x=-b/2a.
In our case a=2>0, the parabola opens upward. X=-0/4=0 and y=0 ,the vertex is the origin (0,0). The Axe of symmetry is x=0 or y-axis.
