Step 1: Graph the line using a dashed line.

Step 2: Substitute (0,0) into . If the result is a true statement, shade in the half-plane that contains the origin bounded by the dashed line you graphed in step 1 . Otherwise, shade in the other side of the boundary line.

Step 3: Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the other inequality.

The solution set is the region where the two shaded areas overlap NOT including the boundary lines.
