Question 388386: Okay, not sure if I did these problems right or not.. my algebra book isn't very clear with the process.
1. Determine the slope and y-intercept of the graph: 3x + y = 8
I got slope = 3, y-intercept = 8? right or wrong? if so please explain
2. Determine the slope and y-intercept of the graph: -x + 2y =4.
I got slope = -1/2, y-intercept = 2? same as above
Thank You Everyone who helps me here! xoxo

# 1

3x%2By=8 Start with the given equation.

y=8-3x Subtract 3x from both sides.

y=-3x%2B8 Rearrange the terms.

So the equation y=-3x%2B8 is now in slope intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=-3 and the y-intercept is b=+8 note: the y-intercept is the point

# 2

-x%2B2y=4 Start with the given equation.

2y=4%2Bx Add x to both sides.

2y=x%2B4 Rearrange the terms.

y=%28x%2B4%29%2F%282%29 Divide both sides by 2 to isolate y.

y=%28%281%29%2F%282%29%29x%2B%284%29%2F%282%29 Break up the fraction.

y=%281%2F2%29x%2B2 Reduce.

So the equation y=%281%2F2%29x%2B2 is now in slope intercept form y=mx%2Bb where the slope is m=1%2F2 and the y-intercept is b=2 note: the y-intercept is the point

1. Determine the slope and y-intercept of the graph: 3x + y = 8
I got slope = 3, y-intercept = 8? right or wrong? if so please explain
3x + y = 8
add -3x to both sides
y =-3x+8
compare with y = mx+b
slope = -3
y intercept = 8

2. Determine the slope and y-intercept of the graph: -x + 2y =4.
I got slope = -1/2, y-intercept = 2? same as above
-x+2y=4
add x to both sides
2y=x+4
/2
y=1/2 *x+2
m= 1/2
y intercept = 2
