If their slopes are negative reciprocals, they are perpendicular...let's find the slopes of
y=8x-8
2y=5-x
Using y = mx + b, the first has a slope of 8, and solving the second for y, we get
y+=+%28-1%2F2%29x+%2B+5%2F2
and its slope is -1/2.
Thus these are not perpendicular.
