The x-intercepts can be found by setting y = 0 and solving for x.
0+=+-%281%2F2%29%28x-1%29%5E2+%2B+2 Solve for x. Subtract-%281%2F2%29%28x-1%29%5E2 from both sides of the equation.
%281%2F2%29%28x-1%29%5E2+=+2 Multiply both sides by 2.
%28x-1%29%5E2+=+4 Take the sqare root of both sides.
x-1+=+2 That's + or - 2. Now add 1 to both sides.
x+=+1%2B-2
The x-intercepts are:
x = 1+2 = 3
x = 1-2 = -1
