the equation of the original line is already in slope-intercept form (y = mx + b)

parallel lines have the same slope (m) so the equation of the new line will be y = 2x + ?

to find ?, just substitute the x and y values of the given point
___ 3 = 2(1) + ? ___ 1 = ?

so the equation of the new line is ___ y = 2x + 1
