You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you plot some points for x and then calculate the corresponding value for y and then put the points on a graph paper and then draw a straight line through them.
your x-axis is horizontal and your y-axis is vertical. you should use graph paper if your have it. get some if you don't.
-----
graph should look like this:
graph+%28600%2C300%2C-4%2C10%2C-8%2C20%2C2x%2B7%2C17%2C1000000%2F%28x-5%29%29
-----
standard form of an equation like this is y = mx + b
m is the slope and b is the y intercept.
since your equation is already in standard form:
your slope is 2
your y intercept is 7
-----
formula for slope is (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
(x1,y1) are one point on the graph
(x2,y2) are another point on the graph
-----
If x is 0, one point on the graph is (0,7)
if x is 5, another point on the graph is (5,17)
-----
slope is (17-7)/(5-0) = 10/5 = 2
-----
plotting points on the graph.
you already have the points you need because 2 points will allow you to draw a straight line. Other equations more complex will require more points.
plot these points on your graph and draw a line between them.
-----
your points are:
0,7
5,17
These are coordinates in (x,y) format. The first coordinate is the x value of your point and the second coordinate is the y value of your point.
-----
The x-axis is a horizontal line on your graph with marks on vertical lines that the x-axis intersects with.
-----
The y-axis is a vertical line on your graph with marks on horizontal lines that the y-axis intersects with.
-----
The graph paper shows these lines.
-----
when x = 0, the vertical line it intersects with is the y-axis.
when y = 0, the horizontal line it intersects with is the x-axis.
-----
You should plot the points where the graph paper vertical lines intersect with the x-axis and where the graph paper horizontal lines intersect with the y-axis.
-----
when x = 5, there is a vertical line that intersects with the x-axis at that point.
when y = 17, there is a horizontal line that intersects with the y-axis at that point.
The intersection of the vertical line with the horizontal line is your coordinate point (5,17).
-----
I drew a vertical and horizontal line on the graph so you could see this intersection.
-----
Your point (0,7) has the x-axis intersecting with the y-axis where x = 0.
It has the y axis intersecting with a horizontal line where y = 7. The intersection of the y-axis with the horizontal line at y = 7 is the point (0,7).
