Question 199792This question is from textbook
: Find the y-intercept and the x-intercept for the equation
-8x + y = 28
-8(0) + y= 28
Y=28
Y intercept is (0,28)
-8x + 0 =28
-8x = 28
X intercept is (-2/7,0) or (-4/14,0)????
Can you help me which answer is right and why?
Thank you!

They are both right in the sense that both and (or even for that matter) describe the exact same point in . However, the one with the coordinates reduced to the lowest terms is generally preferable.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

x-intercept

To find the x-intercept, plug in y=0 and solve for x

-8x%2By=28 Start with the given equation.

-8x%2B0=28 Plug in y=0.

-8x=28 Simplify.

x=%2828%29%2F%28-8%29 Divide both sides by -8 to isolate x.

x=-7%2F2 Reduce.

So the x-intercept is .

y-intercept

To find the y-intercept, plug in x=0 and solve for y

-8x%2By=28 Start with the given equation.

-8%280%29%2By=28 Plug in x=0.

-0%2By=28 Multiply -8 and 0 to get 0.

y=28 Simplify.

So the y-intercept is .
