Question 186700This question is from textbook Algebra1
: Determine whether the graphs of the equations are parallel lines. 8x - 4y = 16 5y - 10x = 3 This question is from textbook Algebra1
You can put this solution on YOUR website! For the line to be parallel, their slopes have to be the same
To find their slopes let us bring the lines to the slope intercept form
ie y = mx + b where m is the slope
8x – 4y = 16
4y = 8x – 16, ie y = 2x – 4 ( this has a slope = 2)
The other line is
5y – 10x = 3 ie 5y = 10x + 3 ; ie y = 2x + (3/5) ( This also has a slope =2)
Answer: Since both lines have the same slopes( m = 2) these lines are parallel
