Question 164684: HELLO! could I please have help wit hmy math homework? The diections say decide whether the graphs of the two equations are parallel lines.
the question is : y=x+3 , y=x+6
THANK! for all the help you give! this helps ALOT!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! lines that are parallel have equal slopes so first make sure the equation is written in y=mx+b format which they are. Since we know that in the format y=mx+b that the slope is equal to m. In the given equations the slope of each is one therefore they are parallel lines.
Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Each line is in slope-intercept form, , where m is the slope and b is the intercept.
y=x+3, the slope is 1, y-intercept is 3.
y=x+6, the slope is 1, y-intercept is 6.
Parallel lines have identical slopes.
Since both lines have slope of 1, they are parallel.
You can plot them just to verify.
First plot the intercepts: (0,3) and (0,6).

Since the slope equals 1, points on the line have equals steps in x and y.
Starting from (0,3), I can find another point on the line by adding the same amount to each. Let's add 2. (0,3)+(2,2)=(2,5).
The same goes for the other coordinate (0,6):(0,6)+(2,2)=(2,8).
Plot those points too.

Then conncect the points.
