Question 162846: can someone help me with this
Solve the inequality and graph the solution.
p^2 + 9p + 14 > 0
a. (-7,-2)
b. (- infinity, -7)
c. (-2, infinity)
d. (- infinity, -7) or (-2, infinity)
Answer by joecbaseball(37) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! First, factor the sentence p^2 + 9p + 14 to (p+7)(p+2) and you get (p+7)(p+2)>0.
Now separate and solve.
(p + 7) > 0
.. p + 7 > 0
Now solve for p by adding (-7) to both sides
..
This gives you p > -7
(p + 2) > 0
p + 2 > 0
. Now solve for p by adding (-2) to both sides
..
This gives you p > -2
Now
.. graph those two points on the number line.
Graphing p > -7 gives you an open circle on -7 and includes all points to the right (to infinity)
Graphing p > -2 gives you an open circle on -2 and includes all points to the right (to infinity)
The intersection of these two graphs will be your answer. Hence, the answer is (-2, infinity), answer C
