Question 1151834: If f(f(x)) = x² find f(x)?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We know that substituting a power of x into a power of x gives a power of
x, so we try to see if f(x)=xn gives a solution:

If so then try

f(x) = xn

then

f(f(x)) = f(xn) = (xn)n = x = x2

The one and only way that can be true for all x is if the exponents of x are
equal

So n²=2

or

n=%22%22+%2B-+sqrt%282%29

So one solution is

matrix%282%2C1%2C%22%22%2C%22f%28x%29%22=x%5Esqrt%282%29%29

Another solution is

matrix%282%2C1%2C%22%22%2C%22f%28x%29%22=x%5E%28-sqrt%282%29%29%29

Can there be other solutions???
