I will answer question 1) only.


There are two ways to prove this statement.


a)  Calculate directly  17%5E14  and  31%5E11,  using a calculator or your computer; then compare the two numbers.


b)  Calculate  14*log(17)  and  11*log(31);  then compare the two numbers.


    In the last case, you can use natural logarithms or logarithms at any other base greater than 1.
