Question 110473: Can you please help me solve this equation? I know the standard form formula is but I don't know how to get the equation into the standard form formula. Any help would be sooo great thanks!!
Write each equation in standard form
y-1=2(x+1) Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! y-1=2(x+1) First, get rid of parens (distributive law)
y-1=2x+2 add 1 to and subtract 2x from both sides
y-1+1-2x=2x-2x+2+1 collect like terms
y-2x=3 multiply each term by -1 and rearrange (NOTE: SEE BELOW)
2x-y=-3 standard form where:
A=1, B=-1, C=-3
Another "standard form" for this equation is the slope-intercept form or:
y=mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y intercept
Take the equation
y-2x=3 add 2x to both sides and we get:
y-2x+2x=2x+3 collect like terms
y=2x+3 where m=2 and b=3
